Why the delays with Suhakam appointments?

It’s been slightly over a month since the Malaysian human rights commission Suhakam has been operating without appointing a new chairman and commissioners to replace the five who stepped down.

Since then, a group of eight NGOs have come forward to push the government to appoint new members to the positions.

BFM talks to former commissioner Jerald Joseph about what’s going on and what needs to be done to resolve this as well as Suhakam’s role in protecting human rights and civil liberties in Malaysia.
