The Malaysian human rights commission, Suhakam, has concluded its public inquiry into an incident at Taiping Prison in January 2025. It found that excessive force, delayed medical treatment, negligence by prison personnel, and other human rights violations were inflicted upon over 100 inmates, directly contributing to the death of Gan Chin Eng.
Astro Awani’s Melisa Idris speaks with Dr Farah Nini Dusuki, one of the Suhakam commissioners on the inquiry panel, and Shashi Devan, a director of Suaram and lawyer representing the detainees’ families
