A nine-member panel at The Federal Court unanimously decided that it is unconstitutional for the Selangor State Legislative Assembly to pass a provision to grant judicial review power to the state Sharia High Court.
This decision relates to a judicial review application against a Selangor religious authority’s fatwa labelling Sisters In Islam as “deviant”.
BFM speaks to Malik Imtiaz Sarwar, the lawyer representing Sisters in Islam (SIS), about the significance of the Federal Court outcome.
