Donald Trump’s return marks a new chapter in Gaza’s genocide and a new McCarthyism at home, says British-Tunisian commentator Soumaya Ghannoushi.
Having vowed to “open the gates of hell” on Gaza, Trump has given Netanyahu the green light to continue the assault. “Some achievement – opening the gates of hell on children, babies and mothers in tents,” Ghannoushi says.
“In the dead of night, 100 warplanes rain fire on families huddled in makeshift shelters. With no ambulances, no hospitals and no way to flee, the wounded are left to die.”
But the war does not stop in Gaza.
“The same machinery of repression that once crushed civil rights leaders is being reactivated to silence dissent against Israel’s genocide,” she argues.
Students, journalists and academics who challenge Israel’s war are being arrested, fired and blacklisted. “This is not about free speech or democracy,” she warns.
“It is about absolute obedience. And those who refuse to comply will be cast out.”
