David Hearst, editor-in-chief of Middle East Eye, says Donald Trump’s ‘Board of Peace’ is a bid to install himself as ‘CEO of the world’ and sideline the UN. He argues the executive board is “stacked full of people who denied a genocide” is taking place in Gaza and is populated by figures who believe in a ‘Greater Israel’.
Hearst points out that the only member with regional experience is Tony Blair, but adds that this experience amounts to “invading Iraq and unleashing a devastating seven-year civil war”.
He reveals that the British government has actively distanced itself from the former prime minister and that National Security Advisor Jonathan Powell “lobbied actively against the nomination”.
Hearst warns that this initiative looks like a Board of Conflict, where nations like Saudi Arabia remain involved only because they view Israel as a “threat to their national security”.
Describing Trump as a “mafia boss” and the board members as equivalent to asking Serbian war criminals to negotiate peace, Hearst concludes that Palestinians will “throw the Board of Peace into the dustbin of history”.
