The government recently approved the adoption of a ‘tracking refugees information system’, which will require all UN refugee agency card holders to submit personal and biometric information that then allows them to be tracked and put under surveillance by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
BFM talks to Beyond Borders president Mahi Ramakrishnan and North-South Initiative executive director Adrian Pereira about the mechanics of this system and what impact it will have on the refugee community.
They also take a look at what is ultimately needed for refugees to live and work in Malaysia with dignity.
