Ten years ago, Najib Razak took the prime minister’s seat. On 3 April, he took another seat. Patrick Teoh presents this report, produced by the Malaysian Insight.
He is facing the first of several trials after a two-month delay. This podcast recaps the first day of the trial, which focused on financial transactions in SRC International, a subsidiary unit of 1MDB.
Najib faces three counts of criminal breach of trust, three counts of money-laundering and one count of power abuse over sums totalling \RM42m belonging to SRC.
If found guilty, Najib faces up to 20 years’ jail and a fine.
*Note: The total number of charges faced by Najib Razak is 42, and not 39 as mentioned in the podcast.
