Donald Trump says he has a plan for Gaza: “We’ll find them a plot of land… build them some nice beautiful places where they can be happy.”
But for Palestinians, this is not new. As British-Tunisian writer and Middle East expert Soumaya Ghannoushi explains, the idea of displacing Gaza’s population has been pursued since Israel occupied the territory in 1967.
From Israeli leaders openly discussing ways to “thin” Gaza’s population to today’s policies of mass destruction, the goal has remained the same: to remove Palestinians from their land.
Yet, despite relentless bombings, forced displacement and years of blockade, the people of Gaza have already answered: “We are not leaving.”
