Malaysia’s economy grew by a stronger-than-expected 6% in the second quarter of 2026, up from 5.4% in the first quarter.
While that is welcome news, what does that growth in gross dometic product (GDP) actually mean for the people generating it? And should we be looking at more than just whether the economy is growing, but also at what that growth is delivering?
Astro Awani’s Melisa Idris talks to Dr Katherine Trebeck, the economic change lead at The Next Economy in Australia. She is also the co-founder of the Wellbeing Economy Alliance (WE-All) and was instrumental in developing the Wellbeing Economy Governments movement.
Dr Trebeck was the keynote speaker at Praxis 2026 organised by the Institute of Strategic and International Studies (Isis) Malaysia .
