On 20 May, the police announced the closure of the investigation into the death of Teoh Beng Hock, categorising it as “no further action”.
Teoh’s family immediately criticised Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim for breaking his promise.
In recent days, Anwar has remained completely silent on the matter, which greatly disappoints the Teoh Beng Hock Association for Democratic Advancement and the Civil Rights Committee of the KL and Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall.
Teoh died while in custody of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), with injuries on his neck sustained before his fall.
The Court of Appeal previously ruled that there were criminal elements involved.
However, the police have not taken firm action against the MACC officers who interrogated Teoh.
In light of civil society’s deep concern over the developments in Teoh’s case, the two organisations hosted a public forum last night titled “Solidarity with Teoh Beng Hock and His Family” at the KL and Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall auditorium.
