Many important positions such as the inspector general of police, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission head and Judicial Appointments Commission members are decided by the prime minister.

BFM talks to Surendra Ananth, deputy chairperson of the Malaysian Bar’s law reform and special areas committee, about why these appointments should be independent of the executive branch of government, in particular the prime minister.
