Lawyer Tan Poh Lai talks about her father Tan Sri Dr Tan Chee Khoon who despite growing up in abject poverty and not having the use of one eye became a famous doctor and leading opposition figure in the 1950s to 1970s.
He was head of the now defunct Labour Party, co-founded Gerakan, and was one of the founders of the University of Malaya.
His involvement in the opposition victory parade in Selangor that subsequently instigated the May 13 riots did not stop him from fighting against non-communal politics.
