Mainstreaming human rights and preserving national unity in Malaysia

Human rights is coming back as a major agenda in Malaysia’s foreign policy, with implications for domestic human rights practice.

In seeking to become a member of the Human Rights Council for the 2022 to 2024 term, Malaysia came up with voluntary pledges and commitments recently. It made promises to cooperate with the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights towards the promotion of human rights in the country and globally.

So now we have a high foreign policy reference to human rights, the building of inclusive societies and the preservation of national unity.

With this backdrop, Proham, KSI and Dialog Rakyat hosted this online conversation to review Malaysia’s human rights commitment, focusing specially on tackling racism domestically and globally in the context of preserving our national unity.
