Prof Tan has dedicated her life to the study and revitalisation of traditional and contemporary performing arts in Malaysia and Southeast Asia.
Her groundbreaking work has empowered marginalised communities, fostered intercultural dialogue, and reshaped how we understand heritage and identity.
Through decades of research, teaching at Universiti Sains Malaysia, and grassroots activism, Prof Tan has inspired generations of students, artists and scholars.
Her legacy includes a rich body of publications, innovative community theatre projects and tireless advocacy for cultural sustainability.
