Hasnah Mohammed Hashim, the Chief Judge of Malaya and currently highest-ranked judge in the judiciary, is now the acting chief justice, until a new appointment is made.

However the transition has been anything but smooth. For the first time in Malaysia’s legal history, the top two posts in the judiciary fell vacant simultaneously – and without prior announcement or clarity on succession.
