Initiative to monitor if parties are fielding enough women candidates

PATRIZIA KRAMER/FLICKR

PantauPRU15 is an initiative, led by the National Council of Women’s Organisations, focused on monitoring gender sensitivity in manifestos and the number of women fielded by political parties.

It also aims to push for at least 30% women’s representation in Parliament.

BFM speaks to Betty Yeoh, lead consultant (gender-based violence) at Engender, Associate Professor Sharifah Syahirah, assistant secretary of the NCWO, and Prof Ummu Atiyah Zakuan, a senior lecturer at Universiti Utara Malaysia – the key people behind the initiative.
