Human rights in 2021: Did we do better?

The theme for this year’s Human Rights Day on 10 December focused on equality, inclusion and non-discrimination.

And as we approach the end of the year, it is also a good time for us to take stock of how Malaysia has fared in reducing inequalities and advancing human rights.

Astro Awani’s Melisa Idris and Sharaad Kuttan speak to Jerald Joseph, a commissioner with the national human rights commission, Suhakam, and Firdaus Husni, chief human rights strategist at the Malaysian Centre for Constitutionalism and Human Rights.

Our voluntary writers work hard to keep these articles free for all to read. But we do need funds to support our struggle for Justice, Freedom and Solidarity. To maintain our editorial independence, we do not carry any advertisements; nor do we accept funding from dubious sources. If everyone reading this was to make a donation, our fundraising target for the year would be achieved within a week.
