The circulation of nude and intimate photos of Pakatan Rakyat’s state executive councillor, Ms Elizabeth Wong, is a gross and indecent violation of an individual’s privacy, say Wong Soak Koon.
All right-thinking and fair-minded Malaysians would condemn whichever machinery whose malevolent intent is responsible for this act (one is loathe to use “whoever” as those responsible may not merit inclusion among homo sapiens!).
It is highly reminiscent of self-righteous Pharisees for someone to say, “it is morally wrong for a single woman to allow a man access to her room.” We always wonder about people who are so quick to throw stones. The Malaysian public is not fooled. Desperate times call forth desperate measures and some may have resorted to the most despicable means to ensure their own political positions. Circulating photos of private moments cannot make a far more sophisticated Malaysian citizenry think less of Ms Wong. As she has been doing her job and that is her public responsibility, we shall take that as the basis of her role as an elected representative of the people. The “folks” we will condemn are those who use such dastardly measures to blacken her name. Malaysians of all cultures are sick of such tricks and “fitnah”. “Malaysia tak boleh” go on like this!!
Pas spiritual leader Datuk Nik Aziz very wisely refrained from passing condemnatory comments for the press to lap up and sensationalise. I fully agree with JAG that “under no circumstances should anyone sink to this level of politicking”. The Malaysian public expect both Barisan and Pakatan politicians to come out strongly in condemnation of such a gross invasion of privacy as well as other means of politicking such as threats to personal and familial safety or offers of “goodies”.
