This Christmas season, the Association for Welfare, Community and Dialogue urges global powers to work for enduring peace in the Middle East and Ukraine, where war is destroying humanity and historical sanctity.
The raging wars in the Middle East and Ukraine reveals a reality of the world where its leaders and collaborators have lost the will and desire for enduring peace.
Peace in global politics is viewed from the position of ideological, economic and military domination, while peace rooted in the birth of Jesus is based on humility, goodwill and justice that transcend ideology.
In the season of Christmas and day-to-day liturgical celebrations, Christians around the world sing the hymn “Glory to God in the highest, peace on earth, and peace to people of goodwill”.
It is a reminder that peace cannot be divorced from the spirituality of acknowledging the source of peace which comes from divine grace.
Peace on Earth shows the importance of living in harmony with the environment. Peace to people of goodwill has no ideological or sectarian religious sentiment; rather, it works on the basis of recognising the dignity and goodness in others.
These call for greater collaboration among all to build a culture of peace in the world.

Hopefully, the light of peace will prevail in its true sense. This requires the effort of all people and leaders of goodwill.
This will help generate hope for the suffering people of the Middle East, Ukraine and other parts of the world experiencing unrest. – Malaysiakini
