Election 2022: Undi rosak and parti aku malas undi – symptom or disease?

BENEDICT LOPEZ

Undi rosak (spoilt votes) was born out of a few things: a growing frustration with our politics, the feeling of not having an option, the desire to have a voice of protest be heard.

But it is not without controversy: proponents argue that it is a valid way to engage with a lack of options and still exercise their democratic right, but critics say it is not the right way forward.

In this upcoming general election, an emerging group of voters simply do not see the point in voting and just want to sit it all out.

BFM explores both perspectives with Dr Wong Chin Huat, a political scientist from Sunway University, and Thevesh Theva, a data scientist and economist.
