Malaysia’s Online Safety Act is entering a major new phase with the introduction of the Child Protection Code and Risk Mitigation Code from 1 June.
The new rules place significantly greater responsibility on social media and messaging platforms to proactively reduce harmful content, scams, exploitation and online risks involving children.

BFM speaks to Dr Benjamin Loh, a digital media and communications lecturer at Monash University Malaysia.
