After much secrecy and anticipation, former PKR leaders Rafizi Ramli and Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad have officially revealed their political vehicle: Bersama, a dormant political party that they are now positioning as a fresh multicultural alternative in Malaysia’s increasingly crowded political landscape.
There is a lot of excitement, especially in the Klang Valley, and the party is already making the headlines of news platforms every single day.
But beyond the speeches and signalling of a new beginning, bigger questions remain: what exactly does Bersama represent, and will it be any different from the politics its new leaders once helped shape from within PKR? As Malaysia’s political space continues to fragment and evolve, will Bersama be the platform to galvanise young people and push the country in a more progressive direction?
BFM explores all of this and more with Nik Nazmi, the former Setiawangsa MP and former natural resources and environmental sustainability minister.
