The prime minister is only permitting government media to cover Parliament proceedings on site. Other media houses have to watch online. This decision has been criticised by several NGOS: the National Union of Journalists, Gerakan Media Merdeka, the Centre for Independent Journalism and the International Federation of Journalists.

BFM speaks to Gayathry Venkiteswaran, assistant professor of media and communications at the University of Nottingham Malaysia, who discusses why it is important to have equal media access and what is really at play here.
