Japan opposition MP Shinji Oguma of the Constitutional Democratic Party voiced sharp criticism of US President Donald Trump’s tariffs, warning against capitulation to what he referred to as “American extortion”. “I hope that you will never give in to the American extortionists,” he said.

Meanwhile, Japan’s Foreign Minister Takeshi Iwaya called for a diplomatic approach to the evolving US trade policy, warning that “tariffs are changing like a daily menu” and creating deep uncertainty, speaking during a parliamentary session in Tokyo on Wednesday.
