Absorbing contract workers into the public sector

Contract workers demand prompt payment of their wages - FILE PHOTO

The vulnerability of contract workers is in the spotlight, as opposition MPs and NGOs like the Government Contract Workers Network (JPKK) call for the government to absorb them into the civil service to better protect their rights.

BFM speaks to JPKK secretary Sivaranjani Manickam about the difficulties these workers face and to Prof Rajah Rasiah, distinguished professor of economics from the University of Malaya, for his views.
