Since the horrific UPSI bus accident that killed 15 students and injured dozens more, we have heard high-level responses that fail to address the root causes.
This kind of predictable, stop-gap, knee-jerk response is so typical of our leadership.
Ironically, they know exactly what the root causes and underlying reasons for the tragic, fatal crashes in our country. They have known for years.
The tragedy is that they choose not to own up to their follies, past and present.
And it is not merely about the current government or cabinet ministers who evade “owning up” to these systemic cracks in how the country is run. It is about honestly acknowledging decades of deliberate neglect over several administrations.
It is also about a leadership that can admit to neglecting where their true service lies, ie to serve the people and build a more equitable nation.
But they chose to ignore that, and when they ignore, tragedy happens.

And by the way, ‘reform’ today (or any day) means digging into the swill of past neglects, deliberate shortcuts taken, and corruption that was allowed to snowball because some political elite and politically linked corporate elites enriched themselves.
This is as good a time as ever, to start digging, and to get to the bottom of why this bus was speeding, and why 15 parents had to bury their children.
We want more than the revocation of the driver’s licence. Go beyond the driver or bus company.
There is a lot more buried in this tragedy of blood, sweat, tears, mangled metal and death.

Malaysia is proud of its Meeting & Eating sessions each time a disaster occurs. And then endless SISATAN begins. Bottom line, save the permit owner, who in most cases is a politician or one’s associate.
I would suspend the licence of the concerned driver and the company till SIASATAN clears them. They should engage private consultants to conduct an investigation and fwd report to the Govt.Till this is completed, the company is not allowed to operate at any cost.
