History shows us that the reformation pulse has been a progressive trait of humanity down the ages, writes JD Lovrenciear.

We have seen this throughout history, the world over.

The call for reforms by people has never faded or been abandoned. History shows us that the reformation pulse has been a progressive trait of humanity down the ages.

The siren call of “reformasi” sparked the 2018 general election outcome. A new wave of that reformasi or reform movement will emerge if the political scene is engulfed by private and vested interests.

God willing, those entrusted to keep Malaysia safe, progressive, clean and peaceful will make the right decisions to soothe the frayed nerves of the people.

Now that our Yang di-Pertuan Agong has asked MPs to indicate their choice for the prime minister’s post, hopefully the MPs will not only look at the numbers but go beyond them.

Here is a suggested list of criteria they should consider:

  • Any criminal record? Is the candidate involved in any criminal legal suits?
  • Any idea of the verified statistics of the nominated person’s bank account, properties (here or abroad), family lifestyle, etc.?
  • Any sign of involvement in money politics?
  • Any tendency to be a racist or religious bigot?
  • What are the key deliverables that the candidate can bring for the betterment of the people and the country?
