My comrade in the struggle …
You wade through the moments … the dots
of life,
joy and sorrow …
bitter and sweet.
Dancing on the edge
of meaning
You walk a line
of loneliness,
hunted by a perverse
culture.
Some warriors
have fallen.
Yet it is not easy to turn back …
nor to turn traitor.
Hold on with tenacity,
even as you rise
on your knees,
with your elbows,
with your shoulders and
with your chin,
to raise a shred of dignity
and a sip of
love and compassion.
My comrade in the struggle,
steel your soul.
Cripple the pattern of oppression
that spews out poverty,
suffering and
destroys
unity.
So clasp the
embers in your hand
and make them a torch
of freedom,
for this path
is the only one.
Even so, this hope …
this disappointment
stirs up
haunting memories and a burden
of regret among
the old veterans,
or perhaps blooms
