‘Bossku’ moniker is embarrassing

In the long haul, money does not sustain political life; reputation and relevance do, writes JD Lovrenciear.

Jelutong MP RSN Rayer was spot on when he urged Najib Razak to show some remorse over all the alleged wrongdoings during his past tenure as prime minister.

Somehow it is ridiculous when people gather around Najib shouting “Bossku!” (my boss) when the rest of the world knows about the web of kleptocracy under his administration.

When Malaysians – knowingly or unknowingly – keep crowding around Najib, it will at some point gain the attention of the global media and add to the embarrassment of the nation.

Supposedly polished and foreign educated, Najib should know better. How long can he plod on with the badge of Bossku?

And the lieutenants who also face court cases or potential cases in the Palace of Justice must also know that if they stand by such a person, they too will be steamrolled over time.

Coming back to Najib, does he know that when he is seated in the dock each passing day, he looks pathetic. Much as he attempts to put on a bemused or uninterested look or carries a book or uses his mobile phone and much as he keeps changing his attire every day, his body language is the biggest giveaway. People are watching as the media put him under the spotlight.

So why does he continue to short-change those in far-flung areas who may lack access to all the news?

Perhaps Umno and BN machais don’t realise that as they champion their political parties, they are actually burying them deeper.

In the long haul, money does not sustain political life. Reputation and relevance do. There is no need for cries of “Bossku!” to shield oneself.

Its was such an unfortunate incident Najib became a PM. He not only embarrassed all Malaysians but also his father and mother. What a shame……
