A humble, hopeful general election prayer for Malaysia

No one will be spared the consequences if the crooks claw their way back to power

The coming general election is probably just around the corner, perhaps just weeks away.

Malaysians must renew their nation in the coming election. Will they?

The country has been on a tailspin since the day the people’s hard-won victory at the 2018 general election was bludgeoned just 22 months later by the infamous, undemocratic ‘backdoor’ entry of scheming politicians.

As the coming general election looms, we have to ask ourselves: will we come together to shape Malaysia’s future? Or will we succumb to the race-and-religious antics of greedy and pious crooks, who are already moving in frantic haste?

Will the people rise in unity and put this struggling nation back on track? In contrast, neighbouring countries have climbed to new heights of success.

The answer lies in how we act in the following key areas.

We must condemn outright all those politicians who are being investigated for corruption.

We must bar from campaigning or contesting in the general election politicians who have not yet been cleared of corruption charges in court.

We must protest vehemently against those politicians languishing behind prison walls who have no shame in fuelling election campaign rhetoric.

Above all, we must have the ability to say no to any of the racists promises or religious discrimination wielded by political parties to sway voters.

A Malaysia of the future cannot be built by any one ethnic group. Every single person has a role to play in shaping the nation’s progress.

Unless we can all crawl out of the dungeon of race-based political mantras and abandon the theocratic Machiavellians, we will never see the sun rise in this once promising nation.

Hopefully, all media will rise to the challenge and help the people see Malaysia as the promised land for all of us.

Religious leaders must have the gumption and honesty to help voters free themselves from the politicians’ convoluted tentacles of greed and abuse of power.

Institutions and vanguards of the nation must be ready to support and shield those who are standing up to free the nation from the rot that is threatening our children’s future.

If we can all play our part, we can march forward as a proud nation and regain our lost honour, dignity and trust.

But if we continue to be enslaved by corruption in its myriad forms, then no one will be spared from the fangs of destruction; no one will be spared the consequences if the crooks and tainted politicians claw their way back to power.

Let us do it right one more time in the looming general election – for it is the last hope we have.
