About the book
This book tells the story of a woman whose courage in the face of state power left a lasting mark on Malaysia’s history. It is both a personal memoir and a document of a darker chapter in the country’s past – one that deserves to be read, remembered and never forgotten.
The double-barrelled authorship of this book is based on two journals fused together, a kind of auto/biography comprising the words of both Theresa Lim Chin Chin and her husband Dave Anthony, as well as recollections by others.
Chin Chin, in her historical journal, told her side of the story of her detention under the ISA. Dave kept a journal from the day Chin Chin was arrested to the day she was released. Both their lives were much more than that. Dave has put it all together in one book of their combined struggle throughout.
Chin Chin’s journal and personal reflections and letters served as an autobiography while Dave wrote her biography. The other notable contribution was made by Chin Chin’s sister Elizabeth in her reflections on their childhood and family. Different voices from her sons and friends are also heard in the book.
