Beginning with a mining explosion in Mongolia and ending in a ghost city west of Beijing, documentarian Zhao Liang’s visionary film Behemoth details the force and fury that makes the environmental and human wreckage of China’s industrialisation disturbingly clear.

By the film’s searing ending, we’re compelled to ask whether the destruction we’ve witnessed in the name of progress serves any purpose at all.

Come and join us at Aliran for this documentary and discussion.
