Field clean candidates: Let candidates be free of corruption charges, declare assets

In the run-up to nomination day for the upcoming Sabah State Election on 12 September 2020, Sabah Bersih calls upon all political parties intending to vie for state seats to field candidates who are free from all court charges, including corruption charges, and to make public their asset declarations, verified by Malaysia Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

Sabah Bersih would also like to remind both the caretaker government of Sabah and the federal government not to abuse public resources in campaigning for votes as this would be tantamount to using taxpayers’ money for the benefit of their own parties. There should be a level playing field for all contesting parties and candidates.

We reiterate our call for a clean, free and fair election and for compliance with all the laws under the Election Offences Act 1954.

As in the Chini and Slim by-elections, the Ministry of Health’s standard operating procedures for elections will be implemented by the Election Commission, and all voters and political parties are reminded to abide by these procedures.

Eligible voters are encouraged to go out in full force to vote to ensure the state election will be clean, free and fair with a credible outcome.

To ensure smooth monitoring of the election, Sabah Bersih would like to invite citizens aged 21 years and above to volunteer as election observers.
