The Association for Community and Dialogue condemns the strike that killed Iranian military commander Qasem Soleimani in Iraq.

The assassination has no moral grounds and has violated Article 8 of the Rome Statute on war crimes, which happens when there is intentional killing or wounding of individuals from hostile nations or armies. Such killing will only intensify hostile situations and worsen proxy wars in the Middle East, of which Iran is also guilty.

US President Donald Trump, who ordered the assassination of Soleimani, had also threatened strikes on 52 Iranian sites which includes its cultural heritage. Such threats are against the Geneva Convention.

The Trump administration has not provided any convincing evidence of any imminent threat posed by Soleimani or the Iranian military to the US.

Furthermore, the US is an alien power in West Asia. It has no moral authority in that region. It is sad that war crimes are perpetrated by nations that pride themselves as icons of freedom, justice and human rights.

Such a drastic act has raised the price of crude oil in international markets during a time of uncertain global economic conditions due to the trade war between the US and China. The oil cartels benefit from the high oil price while the poor suffer.

This will create global instability; nations will suffer budget deficits in subsidising oil price increases, which in turn will reduce the quality of social services to the people.

The issues in the Middle East will not be resolved until the US and Israel give up their intentions to control the resources and the direction of the region. Israel’s obsession with security will not be resolved till it provides a credible homeland to the Palestinians.

Wars intensify hatred and empower extremists.

Iran, Syria and Hizbollah are basically opposing the hegemonic design of the US that dictates the course of these nations.

The peace process in the Middle East needs a new momentum that explicitly describes and spells out the hegemonic design of the US in West Asia.

It is hoped that the international community will stand together against war and destruction and bring the US to account for its reckless policies and actions in the Middle East.

Does USA or its leaders care what the rest of the world thinks and which country or group can go against USA as almost all may be dependent on the economic and military power of the USA?
USA is the highest public debt but yet its currency is strong simply because almost all the countries with surplus funds have been used to support the US Dollar and now may be in a bind as they cannot even withdraw for fear of losing value of their own reserves and also there may be no other alternatives. HAVING SURPLUS FUNDS CREATES OWN PROBLEMS.
Thus USA may have indirectly/subtly colonized economically most of the world and USA can influence their policies. WORLD CAN ONLY CALL …..
