Geramm condemns death threat against journalist

Gerakan Media Merdeka (Geramm) condemns in the strongest terms an alleged death threat sent via email to a Berita Harian journalist.

It is understood that the alleged threat was sent in relation to an exclusive report by the journalist. A police report has since been lodged over the incident.

Geramm urges the police and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission to take immediate action to identify and investigate the individual responsible.

We would like to stress that threats in any form against the media are unacceptable and should be condemned.

All journalists have the right to report based on facts without being shadowed by fear towards any parties.

Any parties unhappy with any media report should use the right channels either by exercising their right to respond or taking legal action if deemed necessary.

Geramm fully supports the statement by the National Union of Journalists Malaysia urging all their members and all other media practitioners to not stay silent if threatened in any way.

To all #kawangeramm, stay strong, and we are in solidarity.
