[ENGLISH VERSION BELOW] Gabungan Mahasiswa Memperjuangkan Palestin (GMMP) ingin menyatakan bahawa kami cakna akan respons Universiti Nottingham Malaysia melalui Sin Chew Daily yang telah kami terjemahkan dan jadikan boleh capai secara atas talian.
Namun demikian, kami ingin meluahkan kekecewaan mengenai kandungan dan sifat jawapan tersebut.
GMMP membantah kenyataan pihak universiti bahawa risalah SAGM [Mahasiswa Membantah Genosid, Malaysia] merupakan tuduhan yang tidak berasas.
Berdasarkan siaran asal yang mendedahkan kerjasama dengan BAE Systems, SAGM hanya membentangkan maklumat yang boleh dicapai melalui laman sesawang UNM dan BAE Systems. Senarai sumber informasi telah disediakan dan boleh dicapai oleh orang awam melalui akaun Instagram SAGM.
Tambahan lagi, siaran SAGM hanya menyatakan bahawa maklumat yang diperolehi mengimplikasikan kemungkinan UNM terpalit dengan genosid yang sedang berlaku di Palestin.
Hal inilah yang menjadi asas kepada tuntutan pertamanya: penjelasan, kerana SAGM risau akan ketidakpastian mengenai sifat projek tersebut dan sama ada ia masih lagi dijalankan.
Walaupun kami mengambil maklum pengesahan pihak universiti bahawa projek yang dimulakan pada tahun 2022 telah ditamatkan, hal ini tidak menjelaskan hubungan berterusan antara UNM dan BAE Systems yang, berdasarkan pengetahuan kami, telah berlanjut sehingga Oktober 2024.

Kami mengedepankan dua kejadian:
- Sebuah kuliah berjudul “Beyond the Hype: Using AI in the real world” oleh BAE Systems yang berlangsung di kampus UNM pada 30 Oktober 2023 sebagai salah satu acara Computer Science Fall Fest anjuran School of Computer Science dan Computer Science Society; dan
- Kehadiran tujuh orang mahasiswa dan tiga orang pensyarah dari UNM di meja bulat bakal graduan BAE Systems 2024 pada 14 Oktober 2024
Dengan ini, pihak UNM masih belum sepenuhnya menjelaskan hubungannya bersama BAE Systems dan, dengan demikian, masih belum memenuhi tuntutan ketiga kami: tindakan, yang menyatakan bahawa UNM wajib melupuskan sebarang bentuk kolaborasi bersama BAE Systems.
GMMP ingin menekankan bahawa tuntutan tindakan SAGM juga bererti tiada sebarang bentuk hubungan patut diteruskan antara UNM dan BAE Systems, biarpun hubungan tersebut tidak menyumbang secara langsung kepada penglibatan BAE Systems dalam jenayah perang Israel.
Hal ini kerana apa-apa bentuk hubungan sekalipun merupakan sebuah pengabsahan terhadap operasi BAE Systems yang, selaku syarikat pembikin senjata, hanya menggalakkan keganasan peperangan, terutamanya peperangan genosidal entiti Zionis Israel terhadap warga Palestin.
Oleh sebab itu, kami menuntut supaya pihak universiti mengisytiharkan sepenuhnya hubungan semasa UNM bersama BAE Systems, dan serta-merta menamatkan hubungan tersebut atas nama keadilan.
Kami juga menuntut agar pihak UNM membalas tuntutan ini melalui kenyataan dalam bahasa Inggeris yang boleh dicapai oleh orang awam.

Israel link: GMMP disappointed with UNM
The Coalition of Students Fighting for Palestine (GMMP) would like to state our awareness of the University of Nottingham Malaysia’s response through Sin Chew Daily of which we have produced a translation accessible online.
Despite this, we would like to express our disappointment regarding the content and nature of the response.
GMMP condemns the university’s framing of Students Against Genocide Malaysia’s language as groundless and accusatory. In the original post that exposes the partnership with BAE Systems, SAGM only reported information that was available on the websites of UNM and BAE Systems. A list of cited sources was made available to the public through their Instagram account.
On top of this, SAGM’s post only said that the information they had pointed to the possibility of UNM’s connection with the genocide happening in Palestine.
This was the basis of their first demand: disclosure, as they were concerned with the uncertainty surrounding the nature of the project and whether it was still ongoing.
Although we acknowledge that the university has confirmed the end of the project that was started back in 2022, this does not explain the continued engagement between UNM and BAE Systems which, to our knowledge, has persisted until as recent as October 2024.
We bring to light two events:
- A talk entitled “Beyond the Hype: Using AI in the real world” by BAE Systems which occurred on campus on 30 October 2023 as part of the Computer Science Fall Fest organised by the School of Computer Science and the Computer Science Society
- The attendance of seven students and three lecturers from UNM at BAE Systems future graduates roundtable on 14 October 2024
With this in mind, UNM has not yet disclosed the full nature of its ties with BAE Systems and, therefore, has not sufficiently fulfilled our third demand for action: that UNM must end all forms of collaboration with BAE Systems.
GMMP would like to emphasise that the demand for action by SAGM also means that no form of engagement should continue to occur between UNM and BAE Systems, even if the nature of that engagement does not contribute directly to the latter’s material complicity in Israeli war crimes.
This is because any form of engagement is equivalent to the act of legitimising the operations of BAE Systems which, as an arms manufacturer, only promotes the violence of war, especially the genocidal war enacted by the Israeli Zionist entity on the Palestinian people.
Hence, we demand that the university fully declare its current relationship with BAE Systems and immediately end that relationship in the name of justice.
We also demand that UNM responds to this through a publicly accessible statement written in English.
