Malaysian police halted opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim while he was addressing a crowd of several hundred at a rally in Kuala Lumpur last night as supporters chanted “reformasi!” in protest.
It is ten years ago since the birth of reformasi on 20 September 1998. Once again, Anwar is due to appear in court – on 24 September. K George recalls the proceedings of the first trial in which the judicial system did not distinguish itself.

We have moved towards more open dissent; and yet we are unsure if we can really achieve a more open political system.
