1998Lim Guan EngDAPKota Melaka MPSec 4(1)(b) Sedition ActCharged with speaking at a ceramah in 1995 in Melaka at which he expressed dissatisfaction with the court's double standards i.e. Rahim Thamby Chik was not brought to trial and the Attorney-General had allegedly failed to properly handle a case where the Malacca Chief Minister had been charged with the statutory rape of a school girl. Sentenced to 18 months' imprisonment on each charge to run concurrently.
1992Karpal SinghDAPSedition ActUpon a report by Tengku Jaffar b Tengku Ahmad, Karpal was investigated for uttering seditious words regarding the ISA as reported in Berita Harian on 14 December 1992. Case dismissed on grounds of no locus standi.
1986Param CumaraswamySec 4(1)(b) Sedition ActCharged with uttering seditious words in a Bar Council press conference where he openly appealed to the Pardons Board to reconsider the petition of Sim Kie Chon and to apply the law uniformly. (Though Sim's case was less serious than Mokhtar Hashim's case, the latter's sentence was commuted). Acquitted and discharged.
1978Mark KodingKota Kinabalu MPSec 4(1)(b) Sedition ActCharged with for a speech in Parliament in which he questioned government policy in allowing Chinese and Tamil schools to continue in the country. Allegedly called for closure and if this contravened Article 152 of the Constitution called for amendment to the Article. Convicted in 1982. Put on a bond for two years with the sum of RM2,000 in one surety for good behaviour under s.173A CPC.
1974-02-26Oh Keng SengMPSedition ActAllegedly seditious speech made on 23 June 1972 at Tampin public rally when he refered to the May 13 incident and to the need for a multi-racial army. Case started in Sessions Court, then in High Court. Fined RM2,000; in default six months imprisonment. Subsequently taken to Federal Court; appeal in March 1980. Appeal was dismissed and the conviction and sentence imposed was affirmed.
1971Fan Yew TengDAPKampar MPSec 4(1)(c) Sedition ActFor his article 'Alliance Policy of Segregation “Evidence galore” ' in the Rocket in December 1970, he was convicted by High Court. Upon appeal that a preliminary inquiry had not been conducted, his conviction was declared an annulity by the Federal Court (and confirmed by the then Privy Council). Although the Federal Court had not ordered a retrial Fan was rearrested and recharged with the same offence under the Sedition Act on 5 July 1973. Finally convicted and fined RM2,000 in default of six months imprisonment. But due to an oversight, he was not removed from Parliament on 13 January 1975.
1971Dr Ooi Kee Saik Sec 4(1)(b) Sedition ActCharged on 22 November 1970 with uttering seditious words. As a result of which Fan Yew Teng (see above) published the alleged seditious words in an issue of The Rocket. A fine of RM2,000 was imposed, in default six months imprisonment.

As at 18 May 2012, 45 detainees were being held in Kamunting. Twelve will be released in 2011, 22 in 2013 and the remaining 11 in 2014. The last detainee will be released on 5 January 2014.

They are being held for alleged human trafficking; alleged involvement in Jemaah Islamiah, Darul Islam and Jemaah Santri Melayu; and alleged falsification of documents (Malaysiakini).
