In his story ‘The White Bull’, Voltairre relates this episode about Nebuchadnezzar, King of the Babylonian Empire.
“Every morning, the peoples of this vast realm would chant:
Long live great Nebuchadnezzar, King of Kings. No longer a dumb animal he!”
“And ever afterwards it was the custom in Babylon, each time a ruler (having been grossly deceived by his satraps, or his magi, or his treasurers, or his wives) recognised the error of his ways and duly mended them, for the entire populace to shout out at his gate:
“Long live our great King who is no longer dumb!”
The little ‘Kings’ in five states failed to realise the error of their ways and so failed to mend them. In the General Elections the populace exclaimed in one voice: “Dumb animals they!”and threw them out of office.
So, dear Pakatan Rakyat draw a lesson from this story about the King of Kings, Nebuchadnezzar. Govern the five states with vision, wisdom, justice, transparency and accountability. You were voted in on a non-ethnicity based platform. Your squabbling over who should be Menteri Besar and who should be councillors, based on ethnic quotas, was a disgrace. Be wise and brave not to get stuck in the ethnicity rut like the BN.
There is a perception that it is the BN which provides the clowns in Parliament. The failure of the Pakatan Rakyat parliamentarians to submit questions for the next session of Parliament is unbelievable. The reasons: “I didn’t know”, “I forgot”, “I was busy doing constituency work” speak not only of their slothfulness but also irresponsibility. It is a clear betrayal of the faith and truth put in them by the rakyat. Shame on all of you.
The Titanic sank on its maiden voyage in 1912. These Pakatan Rakyat chaps have sunk even before commencing their parliamentary voyage!
